Saman Oskouei (1985) e Sasan Oskouei (1991), conosciuti come Icy e Sot sono artisti iraniani originari di Tabriz, attualmente residenti a Brooklyn, New York. I due fratelli iniziarono a lasciare tracce nelle strade in Iran nel 2006, sempre alla ricerca di un medium artistico in grado di dare alle loro idee maggiore risonanza. Attraverso il loro unico linguaggio visuale, hanno fornito potenti e commoventi interpretazioni dell’odierna condizione umana, affrontando importanti temi come i diritti umani, la detenzione, i diritti delle donne, le difficoltà dei migranti e dei rifugiati, il cambiamento climatico o l’altra faccia del capitalismo.

Il loro impegno intellettuale si riflette nei materiali usati nelle opere come filo spinato, reti metalliche, badili arrugginiti o bidoni d’olio. Tutti materiali d’uso comune che gli artisti trasformano in oggetti d’arte fragili e poetici. In ogni caso Icy e Sot non vogliono essere d’insegnamento, ma rappresentare la realtà delle cose attraverso il loro linguaggio personale, e trasformarla in arte.

Icy and Sot always look for the appropriate medium to give their ideas the greatest resonance. Through their unique visual language, they have been delivering powerful, moving statements on the present-day human condition, tackling important issues such as human rights, detention, women’s rights, the plights of migrants and refugees, climate change, or the pitfalls of capitalism.

Their commitment is reflected in the materials that their artworks are made of: barbed wire, iron wire, old rusty shovels or oil cans. All raw materials that the artists divert and transfigure to give life to pieces of art that are full of poetry and fragility. However Icy and Sot do not mean to lecture anyone. They are content with reflecting the truth of our times through their own language. And turn it into a work of art.
